Appearance & Features:
Carpet beetles are usually less than 6mm in length and are similar to ladybird beetles in shape. It can take up to to three years for varied carpet beetles to grow from an egg to an adult. They get their name from the rainbow of color on their back surfaces.
Carpet beetles are found in homes in attics, Oriental carpets, tapestries and wood-based wall-to-wall carpeting. Carpet beetles enjoy dining on carpets, woolen fabrics, dead insects, furs, hides, feathers, horns, hair, silk and bones.
They damage carpets, tapestries, clothing fabric.
Plastic containers should be used for storing wool and silk clothing. Wool carpets should be hoovered regularly and clothing should be dry-cleaned before storing for long periods of time.
